thoughts on the bbc sound of 2012

while i’m waiting for emma to come out of the shower, i thought i’d put down my very quick thoughts on the bbc sound of 2012.

a$ap rocky
i’d never heard of him before and there isn’t any music directly available on the bbc site, so we’re off to a stunning start.

azealia banks
as regular readers, or at least those that read the site last week, will know. i love this woman.

dot rotten
apart from the brilliant name, this is pretty standard bbc sound fayre. there’s always a south london rapper who seems alright in this every year.

dry the river
i lasted about 20 seconds before i started yawning.

flux pavilion
never heard of him but he looks like a fat matt willis. surely they could have thrown rustie or something in here instead?

frank ocean
yes mate. although surely he’s already made it? he’s fucking huge(ish).

friends
brilliant. brilliant. brilliant. if this isn’t top three i’m going to cause some serious mayhem.

jamie n commons
another that i’d never heard of, but i’d quite like to hear more. also, elvis costello is a fan apparently so i am as well. hold on. the track has just got to about 90 seconds in and gone a bit shit. keep it slow and quiet please jamie.

lianne la havas
i’m reserving judgment here. i want to hear more because i have a feeling the track on the bbc site might not be her best.

michael kiwanuka
i like this man and he has the same surname as my boss. make of that what you will.

niki and the dove
niki and the dove are awesome. are we sure they haven’t been on list before though?

ren harvieu
i hope she goes the right way. she could so easily become another duffy and none of us want that. great voice.

skrillex
skrillex is probably the most hated man on the internet. and rightly so.

spector
i’ve been following spector for a while. i liked them to start with, then didn’t think they were very good on jools holland the other day. i like them again at the moment though.

stooshe
this is awful. hopefully little mix will win the x factor (or coming second seems to be the success guaranteer actually) and then we won’t need this lot.

azealia, niki and friends for the top three please. thanks very much. theme park and gross magic should be there as well by the way.
