i’m working away all this week. nowhere exotic unfortunately. i’m at earl’s court. what this means tough is that i haven’t got much time to do any proper posts. you’ve just got a review of goblin and maybe you’ll get smother later in the week. but to guarantee there is always something on here, i’m taking inspiration from a thread on the forum. we were asked our favourite movies of each decade from the past 50 years (70 in truth, but 50 works better for this). i realised that with each of mine, music was quite important. you can probably see where i’m going with this.

first up, from the 60s is godard’s brilliant le mepris. i’ve spoken about it on here before so i won’t go on, but enjoy the theme courtesy of youtube above. georges delerue at his best. i’ll be back tomorrow with my favourite from the 70s.

this was my christmas. 9am. josh got up. later than expected. open stocking. 10am. kedgeree. good. 10.30am. open presents. i’m getting a bike so i had a book and some lights. josh got a table football table. ben 10 ds game. lego. lots of bits basically. 11.30am. to my brother’s with the family. guinness on arrival. 12.30am open presents. i got a massive daft punk print. josh got an ant world and chemistry set. i see danger and mess ahead. 1.30pm. sister in law’s family arrive. rum is given to me. good. more guinness. 4pm. dinner. very good. brother and his wife’s first effort. impressive. red wine. 5pm. christmas pudding. custard. excellent. 6pm. rapidough. lager. 7pm. shout out loud. lager. 8pm. london underground game. lager. 9pm. four player mario kart on the wii. i won. lager. 10pm. christmas cake. black bomber & biscuits. lager. 11pm. sports resort on the wii. i won. midnight. fifa on the wii. i won.

what this basically means is that i don’t know what to post about. how about a spotify playlist to relax on a boxing day to? perfect.

this weekend, while recovering from the christmas party excesses, i decided i needed to watch a film. for ages i’ve had le mepris sitting in my room from love film. it always takes me a while to get around the watching this type of film though. if it had been kick-ass or something like that i’d have stuck it on within a day of getting it, and it would have winged its way back to them for me to await a replacement. instead i need to be in the right mood to sit there and concentrate. i decided on sunday that i was.

as you may have noticed, this isn’t a film blog so i won’t get into the habit of reviewing films (expect a catfish / ultra culture cinema review on friday though) and instead will tell you how fucking amazing the score is. it was the original french version i watched, so had the george delerue original insread of piccioni’s jazzy version. perfect. it was everything you’d expect from french new wave cinema and more. i fell in love with the music more than even the film itself i think. all i can do is share it via spotify with you today. you might not think too much of it on its own, but like daft punk & tron, listen to it during the film. beautiful.
